Chrysler made a huge splash when it put the Viper into production way back in 1992. But over the course of some eighteen years and 22,000 units of production, we all became used to the idea of having the Viper around. Then it was discontinued about a year and a half ago, and we started missing America's gnarliest of sports cars.
Fortunately the Viper is coming back, and coming back to the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant. The factory had been home to Viper assembly since it was moved there in 1995, but has laid dormant since July 2010. Now that the next-generation Viper is coming 'round the mountain, Chrysler is re-opening Conner Avenue to the tune of some 150 jobs. The re-opening of the facility makes Chrysler, in its own words, the only automaker with multiple assembly plants in Detroit proper.
Intriguingly, the press release after the jump refers to the upcoming new Viper not as a Dodge, but rather as an SRT product. The performance division was recently spun off by Chrysler into its own unit (much like the Ram truck brand was separated from Dodge), with Chrysler's chief designer and former Dodge chief Ralph Gilles at its helm, and the language seems to indicate that the new Viper could be the brand's first product. Color us officially excited.

Dodge Viper lays claim to Nürburgring record with 7:12 run.
As you may already be aware, there is no official production car record at the Nürburgring. That hasn't stopped well-meaning automakers from warming up the great German marketing machine in an attempt to outdo previous marks set by their competitors, and that includes the fine folks at Dodge.
Way back in 2008, Dodge shipped one of its Viper ACR coupes to the 'Ring with the goal of setting a blistering time. Suffice it to say, the outing was a complete success. For quite some time, Dodge claimed with a time of 7:22.1 that it held the fastest lap time of any production car around the famous circuit.
Since then, a number of manufacturers and machines have bested that still-stellar time, notably the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (7:19.63) and more recently the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition (7:14). Now, according to a new forum post by Viper Club of America president Marv Spatz, Dodge Viper owners can cheer the return of the crown, because a Viper ACR has reportedly just reclaimed the title with an unofficial time of "7:12 and change."
Keen enthusiasts will note that the Dodge Viper is no longer in production, so SRT sourced a pair of brand-new 2010 models from Tomball Dodge of Texas before having them prepped for action by Mintgen Motorsports, a shop just down the road from the Nordschleife.

Could Dodge be ready to run with a new wagon in the future? Automotive News chatted with SRT president Ralph Gilles, an unapologetic fan of the now-defunct Magnum. Gilles revealed that one unnamed Chrysler exec, now retired, was responsible for killing off the car, and that other Magnum aficionados are now coming out of the woodwork within the company.
Gilles didn't go so far as to announce that a future Magnum has been given the green light inside the company, but told Automotive News to "stay tuned" and that "great things are coming."
Hopefully, this means another muscle wagon is in the works. Early rumors that the Magnum nameplate would be used on Dodge's big new crossover never panned out; it hit showrooms as the Durango.
Our take? Revive the Dodge Magnum! If the new Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger are any indication, it'd be excellent ride, especially when Ralph Gilles and his SRT speed freaks get around to stuffing that 392 Hemi underhood. After all, the practical hoons among us deserve some love, too.

2011 Dodge Ram Runner Mopar is a specially modified vehicle, which is set to be the ultimate desert racer. Mopar performance division has introduced the Ram Runner off-road kit, which features some exclusive parts.
“At Mopar, our image vehicles showcase potential directions that we may take and the new Ram Runner kit is a good example,” commented Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO, Mopar, Chrysler Group’s service, parts and customer-care brand.

Ram Truck officials unveiled the rugged new model at the Professional Outdoor Media Association’s (POMA) fifth annual national business conference.
Ram Outdoorsman is available in 1500 (half-ton), 2500 HD (3/4-ton) and 3500 HD single rear wheel (1 ton), Regular Cab; Quad Cab, Crew Cab and Mega Cab; four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive; and short- and long-wheelbase models.
Outdoorsman will replace the TRX4 trim level in the 2011 Ram Truck lineup. It will join the other Ram trim levels, which include: ST, SLT, Big Horn / Lone Star, Sport (1500 only) Laramie and Power Wagon (2500 only).
Prices for Ram Outdoorsman models start at $28,350, including destination charge.

Ram Truck and Mopar—the Chrysler Group’s service, parts and customer care brand—are joining forces to sponsor two teams in this year’s The Off-Road Championship (TORC) Series, which kicks off on Memorial Day in Buchanan, Mich.
Driving factory-backed Ram Trucks in the 14-race series will be multiple-time off-road champ Rob MacCachren and Formula DRIFT king Sam Hubinette, who will compete for Traxxas Racing, along with Menzies Motorsports’ Ricky Johnson (a 2010 TORC class champion), Bryce Menzies (a three-year off-road veteran) and Luke Johnson (one of the sport’s rising stars).
In addition, the Ram/Mopar sponsorship also means:
Ram will become the official vehicle of the TORC Series.
A Mopar Ram Runner will serve as the official pace truck.
Ram and Mopar will bring a significant trackside presence to each race, with off-road Ram Truck test-drive opportunities for fans.

Dodge has just revealed its latest addition, the 2012 Dodge Avenger

R/T, which official public premiere is scheduled for the tomorrow’s starting 2011 New York International Auto Show.
Showcasing a stiffened suspension, masculine exterior look, sporty-styled cockpit and vigor yet efficient V6 plant powerful enough to deliver 283 horsepower, the 2012 Dodge Avenger R/T mid-sized sedan takes the fun-driving factor to a whole another level.
Ralph Gilles, President and CEO, Dodge Brand, said: “The Avenger R/T makes driving a mid-size car a really fun, engaging experience. The Avenger R/T offers performance design cues both inside and out, as well as unique handling characteristics and a sport-tuned suspension. In the power compartment, the Avenger R/T’s 3.6-liters Pentastar V6 engine is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, thanks to which an amazing EPA fuel economy rating is achieved – 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
The newly packed 2012 Avenger model is planned to hit the brand’s showrooms is the third quarter of 2011.

Although the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab is usually all about Jeeps, that doesn't mean that Chrysler's Ram truck brand can't be part of the fun.
Mopar, Chrysler's performance arm, has "Moparized" a Ram truck partly in the spirit of the Easter Jeep Safari and partly to fight against Ford's mighty Raptor off-road attacker. Mopar and Ram will be sponsoring the 2011 TORC off-road short-course racing series, and the Ram Runner will pace all events.
The package will include 14 inches of wheel travel, new front and rear bumpers, bigger control arms, Fox-brand shocks, and beefier fenders. The Ram Runner Stage II kit is available in five different pieces, with a base price of $13,270. The front bumper adds $1,250, a rear-tire carrier adds $1,010, the front fenders add $1,020, and the rear fenders add $1,350, meaning a fully-optioned out truck comes to $17,900. Company officials estimate that the total package--which will be available for 2009-2011 Ram 1500s in a month or so--will set you back about $19,000, not including labor.

First Drive: 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392. I had the chance to drive a few laps at California's Infineon Raceway in the new
2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 last week, and while this report will be short (My drive was limited to just a few hot laps), I'll do my best to make it informative.
We've already published the details on the 470-horsepower Challenger, so I won't spend too much time rehashing them. Instead, let's dive right in.
From the outside, the new Challenger looks pretty much like the old one, save for the Inaugural Edition paint job and interior trim, which will only be available on the first 1,492 Challenger SRT8 392s sold. The interior is similar, too, with the biggest change being a new steering wheel.
The new 6.4-liter engine--which is essentially the old 6.1 bored and stroked--sounds like the old engine, as well. Indeed, the entire experience is familiar to anyone who has driven the previous-generation Challenger.
The big question is: Is it faster? And truth be told, it's hard to tell. Infineon is a highly technical track without a lot of straightaway space, and without the aid of test instruments, it was hard to tell. By the seat of my pants, it felt about the same, maybe a hair faster than the previous car. Which is to say, it's still pretty damn quick. I was driving a manual-transmission car, and it pulled strongly out of corners in third gear.
The most noticeable difference concerns the suspension. Tweaked and tuned for 2011, the updated suspension allowed the car to feel more predictable and planted in corners. The Challenger feels more precise than before, and it feels smaller, even though dimensions are pretty much unchanged. I never felt intimidated by all that power.
We'll have more once we get our hands on a Challenger press loaner. But for now, the new Challenger holds up well on the track.

2011 Dodge Challenger Specs Leaked...Again. Back in July we got our first taste of the 2011 Dodge Challenger's spec sheet, confirming the 6.4-liter HEMI for the SRT8 and putting pricing in the $25,000-$43,000 range. Today, what looks to be an internal dealer document has surfaced, revealing more details--including specific horsepower figures.
The numbers aren't a surprise: the 6.4-Liter HEMI is rated at 475 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of twist according to the leaked info. Those figures are a touch on the low side of what was expected, but still enough to give Dodge the idea that the new Challenger SRT8 will offer some competition for the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500.
Having driven the 2011 Shelby GT500 on track at VIR, however, Dodge will have to do some serious work on weight and suspension to keep pace with the nimbler, more powerful Mustang.
The 5.7-liter HEMI under the hood of the R/T turns out 379 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, a mild upgrade from the 372 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of the current 2010 Challenger, but again lagging behind the 2011 Mustang GT and Camaro SS.

In the base V-6 car, output jumps more noticeably from 250 horsepower to 305 horsepower, right on par with the new generation V-6s from Ford and Chevy. Dodge Nitro accessories For its first year on the road, the Nitro was presented in three different trim levels: SXT, SLT, and the R/T. Standard in all models was electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, a tire-pressure monitor, front and rear side airbags, and side-curtain airbags. Upholstery and other amenities depended on the trim level. SXT Nitros received cloth, SLT versions got stain-repellant cloth, and the top-level R/T was decked out with leather. In 2008, the model was updated. Once again, it was offered as both rear and four-wheel drive on two trim levels - the SXT and SLT. Standard on both was a 3.7L V6 good for 210 horsepower, with the SXT getting a standard six-speed manual transmission with a four-speed automatic as optional. The R/T was geared up with even more niceties including an upgraded interior. All Nitro models were outfitted with front airbags, side curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, brake assist, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

This is the general consensus among reviews studied by TheCarConnection.com team when it comes to what Kelley Blue Book describes as "a station wagon on steroids with an edgy retro style"--the Dodge Magnum 2008.
Automobile reports that "for its third birthday, the [2008] Dodge Magnum gets a bit of cosmetic surgery, chiefly around the headlights, seeking to correct what Chrysler design chief Trevor Creed described as the Magnum's 'wide-eyed look.'" Edmunds adds that the "face-lifted 2008 Dodge Magnum continues to avoid the stodgy wagon mold, thanks to its specialized blend of sporty good looks." Cars.com praises the Magnum 2008 design: "Its bold styling commands the road...in a market crowded with conformity, [Dodge Magnum 2008 is] a welcome nonconformist."
The Dodge Magnum 2008's interior receives some mixed reactions, however. According to an Autoblog source, Dodge will abandon the Durango nameplate for the model's replacement due for 2012. In place of that two-generation designator, Chrysler is exhuming the Magnum nameplate, a moniker used on the low-slung wagon built on Chrysler's LX platform up until 2008. The new Magnum is expected to be built atop the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee chassis (itself riding on Mercedes-Benz-derived architecture) and skew more toward the crossover segment than the previous rough-and-ready SUV.

Our source originally showed us a screen capture of a Pentastar service training software page on its Chrysler Academy Learning Center confirming the Magnum's existence (shown above), but at that time, he wasn't clear what the vehicle was. Since then, our man has learned through a Chrysler zone manager at a New York dealer's meeting that the line item in question is indeed the next Durango. A secondary source close to the situation confirmed to Autoblog that a name change for the new vehicle is in the cards and that Magnum is under serious consideration, but he was unclear as to whether a final decision had been made.

The Durango was introduced in 1998 and immediately found success riding the crest of the SUV boom. A second-generation debuted for 2004 and ran through the 2009 model year, but the larger redesigned model didn't meet with the same sort of success as its predecessor, struggling to deal with the collapse of the body-on-frame SUV market and increasingly plentiful crossover options.

I could play with the typical wagon/hauling clich?but instead I will tell you about how it behaves on the track. The mass of this wagon is well controlled. The car's power is easy to control and made hustling such a large wagon around the track relatively easy. From a driving experience perspective, the Magnum/300C vehicles were a joy on the track. This was surprising. While not quite as light on their feet as the SRT4 or SRT6, the power of the Hemi V8 made them as much fun.

Imperfect though it may have been, we kinda miss the Dodge Magnum. Building a low-slung wagon and dropping a Hemi into it took a lot of guts on Chrysler's part. And while it may have been discontinued, it appears to be slated for an encore, albeit in name only.

As we reported a couple of weeks back, Chrysler is considering bringing the Magnum nameplate back for a new crossover to replace the Durango. New U.S. patent drawings have leaked onto the interwebs, giving us a good look at how the new Magnum will appear when it hits the road, anticipated sometime next year as a 2011 or 2012 model. The new Magnum will definitely be taller than the old one, but considerably more car-like than the body-on-frame Durango it replaces. Underpinnings are expected to be borrowed from the highly anticipated new Jeep Grand Cherokee, with 280-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 360-hp V8 5.7L V8 on offer.

In the standard rear-drive setup, the V-6 is perfectly adequate. To step up to the V-8, you need to move to the 2008 Dodge Magnum R/T models, which are powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 that offers 340 horsepower and comes with a five-speed automatic and cylinder deactivation technology to improve fuel efficiency. All-wheel drive is available with the V-8 and also gets you 19-inch wheels standard. With the HEMI, the extra weight of the all-wheel drive is inconsequential.

Chrysler today confirmed rumors that it will discontinue the Dodge Magnum, the convertible Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chrysler Pacifica and Chrysler Crossfire in 2008. In the same time frame, Chrysler will add the Dodge Journey, Dodge Challenger, Chrysler Aspen Hybrid, and Dodge Durango Hybrid to its portfolio. The company also announced as many as 10,000 job cuts.

“These actions reflect our new customer-driven philosophy and allow us to focus our resources on new, more profitable and appealing products,” added Jim Press, Vice Chairman and President. “Further, these product actions are all in response to dealer requests.”

Manufacturing reductions

Chrysler also said it would make volume-related reductions at several of its North American assembly and powertrain plants. Shifts will be eliminated at five North American assembly plants which, combined with other volume-related manufacturing actions, will lead to a reduction of 8,500-10,000 additional hourly jobs through 2008.

These “volume-related actions” are in addition to 13,000 jobs eliminated by the three-year Recovery and Transformation Plan (RTP) announced in February. “We have to move now to adjust the way our company looks and acts to reflect a smaller market,” added Tom LaSorda, Vice Chairman and President. “That means a cost base that is right-sized and an appropriate level of plant utilization.” Chrysler will eliminate shifts at five assembly plants, and take further volume-related actions at several other facilities. It will: Drop third-shift operations at Belvidere (Ill.) Assembly Plant in the first quarter 2008. Belvidere builds the Dodge Caliber, Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass.
Drop second-shift operations at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant — which builds the builds the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander — in the first quarter 2008. It’s expected that the plant will return to two shifts in first quarter 2010 with the introduction of new SUVs.
Drop third-shift operations at the Toledo (Ohio) North Assembly Plant in the first quarter 2008. Toledo North builds the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro.

Dodge recommends six service stops over the course of 40,000 miles, requiring an oil change and tire rotation every 6000 miles, which ran a reasonable $46 each. However, every 12,000 miles the cabin air filter needs replacement, and that adds a pricey $47, essentially doubling the service cost. The major maintenance at 30,000 miles calls for the spark plugs and engine air filter to be changed, along with the standard oil change and tire shuffle, and that came to $302.

So the tab for regular service was rather high at $673, almost $100 more than for a Hemi Dodge Durango (January 2006), and the Magnum's cabin-air-filter changes alone totaled $141.
We had some problems. At about 12,000 miles, we noticed a slight brake-pedal pulsation while slowing from interstate speeds. And shortly thereafter, our Sirius satellite radio quit. The dealer turned the front brake rotors and replaced the satellite-radio receiver under warranty.

The air conditioning mysteriously petered out a couple times on long-distance trips, so at the 18,000-mile stop we had it checked. The problem was a sticking expansion valve, again replaced free under the three-year/36,000-mile warranty. Also replaced at no cost was a sun-visor retaining clip that we broke. Normally, we'd attribute that to the staff's propensity to manhandle cars, but we eventually broke both of the Magnum's clips, so they may be especially frail.
Pesky brake pulsations resumed a couple thousand miles later, and we got stuck with a $259 bill and an unscheduled stop to replace the front rotors (the 12-month/12,000-mile brake warranty had expired). Toward the end of the Magnum's 40,000-mile stay, a staffer reported increased suspension noises coming from the front, and sure enough, the front anti-roll-bar links and bushings needed replacing. This happened just after the 36,000-mile warranty expired, but our dealer covered the repair bill, citing our service history with them, which they say is common practice. We included the $348 charge, however, since this sort of generosity can't always be counted on.

Estimating from the tread wear, we would have had to replace the tires at about 25,000 miles. But we racked up more than half the Magnum's 40,000 miles on snow tires, so we added a virtual $412 to the normal-wear cost to cover a replacement set.
All those winter miles gave us a chance to demonstrate once again just how effective snow tires are, even with a rear-drive car. Our $756 set of Dunlop Grandtrek WT M2s provided heaps of traction, and we had no reports of getting stuck. Road warrior K.C. Colwell cashed in on a $50 bet by trekking up a particularly steep and snow-covered road in Snowmass Village, Colorado. "There weren't even any other rear-drive cars around," he gushed. "My friends thought there was no way." But if you still think you need all-wheel drive, Dodge offers it for $2000.

All told, the Magnum held up well to our rigorous mileage accumulation. In fact, many staffers commented on how surprisingly tight and solid it felt after 40,000 miles — the lone exception being a loose plastic trim piece that surrounds the shift lever. "Why does a family hauler have to be slow, bland, and uninvolving?" DaimlerChrysler seemed to ask that rhetorically when the company launched the large, riskily styled Magnum wagon in 2004. So far, more than 100,000 people have answered with their dollars. Add in the Magnum's siblings, the Charger and the Chrysler 300, and it's more like 475,000. This plus-size wagon is not just a family hauler. With its sharp responses, particularly in 340-hp Hemi RT trim, it's every bit a driver's car, too. We liked the idea and the execution, and we voted it a 10Best Car for 2005. The Magnum's appeal seems to span generations: Name another vehicle that's just as likely to have chromed-out, oversize wheels as it is to have kids' car seats in back.

But a car that's great for a few days is not necessarily one you'd want to own, so we ordered a Magnum RT to find out over 40,000 miles. The RT is the most popular and second most powerful model in the Magnum lineup, which ranges from a base $23,255 SE with a 190-hp V-6 to the mighty 425-hp $37,995 SRT8. Almost no option box went unchecked as we added $6170 to the Magnum's $30,745 base price. Extras included a $1895 navigation system, a $950 sunroof, and convenience items such as heated power front seats, automatic dual-zone climate control, satellite radio, and a multifunctional trip computer.

Of course, the first thing staffers here wanted to experience was the Magnum's impressive acceleration — 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, with a quarter-mile rush of 14.3. After that initial excitement, we began to notice the details, such as the cavernous people space up front and in back. From the logbook: "Excellent adjustability of wheel, seat, and pedals." Indeed, the Magnum has more legroom front and rear than does a Chevy Tahoe. Packing five six-footers into the Magnum isn't a stretch. The wagon feels huge, too, as the driver peers out over the expansive dash and long hood, as if the seat were placed in the middle of the car. The blind spots through the tiny rear quarter-windows are a liability, and maneuvers that are based on the view rearward — particularly when just the dinky rear wiper area has been swept clear — take a measure of faith.

Power and space aside, we also reveled in the Magnum's solid structure, confident road manners, and relatively quiet interior. This big wagon is quite responsive for its 4295-pound weight: Stops from 70 mph in our initial testing required just 174 feet, and all-out grip on the skidpad was 0.81 g, limited by a stability-control system that can't be completely disabled. Some thought the steering was a bit quick off-center, but it definitely provides reliable feedback through the grippy leather-covered wheel. Early complaints involved the vast black-plastic interior that doesn't seem to fit with the stylish exterior. Some had difficulty wading through the various trip-computer and navigation menus; in particular, the nav-screen dimmer and the clock adjustment were elusive to a handful of staffers.

Powertrain.
The new 6.1-liter SRT version of the legendary HEMI engine was inspired by the original family of HEMIs, particularly the namesake hemispherical combustion chambers that provide power and efficiency and select visual cues including the classic orange-painted cylinder block and black valve covers. The new engine also matches the legendary "Street HEMI" of the 1960s and 1970s with its 425-horsepower rating. But it does so with less displacement. The 6.1-liter HEMI's 69.8 horsepower-per-liter rating exceeds that of the Street HEMI. Today's SRT HEMI is subject to many requirements that older engines didn't have to meet, requirements for emissions and fuel efficiency.
With the Chrysler Group's clean and efficient all-new 5.7-liter HEMI as a starting point, SRT powertrain engineers developed 85 more horsepower by adding more cubic inches, increasing the compression ratio, redesigning the cylinder head, intake and exhaust systems for increased flow, and increasing engine speed.
For more displacement, SRT engineers bored out the diameter of the cylinders in the HEMI by 3.5 millimeters each in order to increase the total displacement to 6.1 liters from 5.7 liters.
Compression ratio was also increased to 10.3:1 from 9.6:1, increasing engine efficiency and power. Engine breathing was increased with new higher-flow cylinder heads, a specially designed intake manifold, and exhaust headers with individual tubes encased in a stainless steel shell, all unique to the 6.1-liter HEMI engine. Larger-diameter valves and reshaped ports in the heads allow for maximized air flow. The intake manifold was designed with larger-diameter and shorter runners for higher-speed tuning.
Exhaust is routed through a large-diameter (2.75-inch vs. 2.5-inch) exhaust system with 3.5-inch chrome tips.
To further increase horsepower, performance-oriented camshaft profiles were developed to allow more air in and out of the cylinders, as well as manage a higher engine speed. SRT engineers increased the HEMI's peak power output engine speed nearly 20 percent, to 6,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) from 5,000 rpm. Intake and exhaust valve stems are hollow, and the exhaust valve stems are filled with sodium to help dissipate heat more efficiently.
The high-performance SRT 6.1-liter HEMI is strengthened with redesigned components, including a reinforced engine block, forged steel crankshaft, high-strength powdered-metal connecting rods, floating-pin pistons (cooled by oil squirters), and an oil pan modified to manage oil return to the pan sump at high engine speeds. Power for the SRT 6.1-liter HEMI is channeled through an A580 five-speed automatic transmission with specially calibrated driver-selectable AutoStick, which offers fully automatic or manual shifting selection. A heavy-duty four-flange prop shaft sends the torque from the transmission to an upgraded differential and axles.
Ride and Handling.
The all-new 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 is set up for outstanding ride and handling across a dynamic range. Chassis setup for the Dodge Magnum SRT8 is aimed at all-around performance with SRT-tuned dampers, specially tailored spring rates and suspension bushings, and large-diameter anti-sway bars. The ride height of the Magnum SRT8 is one-half inch lower than the Dodge Magnum, while the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has been specially tuned for the 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8's performance handling characteristics. The all-new 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 will meet the road with a new wheel and tire assembly consisting of unique 20-inch forged aluminum wheels shod with high-performance Goodyear F1 three-season tires with asymmetrical tread (four-season tires are an available option). Tire dimensions are a formidable 245/45/20 in the front, and 255/45/20 in the rear.
Braking.
One of the most significant dimensions of well-balanced performance is the ability to slow and stop as safely and predictably as possible. The braking system of the 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 was designed to provide benchmark braking performance, setting a new standard for cars in its class. All four wheels feature performance brake calipers developed by Brembo and finished in Dodge SRT red. Each is equipped with four pistons for even clamping performance. The Dodge Magnum SRT8 has 360 x 32mm vented rotors up front, with 350 x 26mm vented rotors in the rear.
Exterior.
Dodge Magnum is striking with its raised beltline and roofline pulled down tautly around the windows. SRT stylists made functional improvements that resonate with the Dodge brand's character and contribute to performance.
For example, an all-new front fascia helps increase cooling through integrated ducts that help direct air to cool the brakes. A front air dam reduces lift, while in the rear, there is an all-new fascia with an integrated wake modifier and aggressive cutouts to accommodate the dual 3.5-inch exhaust tips. Dodge Magnum SRT8 styling is also unique with a body-color grille insert with chrome trim, satin-finish front and rear bumper inserts, body-color mirrors and door handles, and unique SRT badging. Street and Racing Technology (SRT) engineers began with a solid foundation, the 2006 Dodge Magnum, and successfully injected SRT DNA in order to produce a vehicle that can cover a quarter mile in the high 13--second range and haul home a brand-new 27-inch TV.

Introduction. Even though the Dodge Magnum wagon has only been on sale a few years, style- and performance-minded families have taken to it like bees to honey. Or, to harken back to the Dodge muscle car of the late 60s and early 70s, like Super Bees to honey with respect to the Hemi V8-equipped R/T and SRT8 models. But that's not really surprising given the Magnum's appealing combination of handsome and purposeful styling, family-sized utility and wide range of trim and engine choices.

For 2008, the Dodge Magnum's good looks have been updated with a revised front fascia, newly sculpted hood and a reshaped grille. Exclusive to this year's SRT8 model is a functional hood scoop. Magnum R/T and SRT8 models also feature newly optional HID headlamps for greater visibility and an extra dose of high-tech sophistication. Inside, Dodge has sought to remedy the Magnum's lackluster interior design with select soft-touch surfaces, a redesigned and more driver-oriented instrument panel, and LED lighting for the cupholders and door pockets on the R/T and SRT8.
