Ram Goes Racing.

Ram Truck and Mopar—the Chrysler Group’s service, parts and customer care brand—are joining forces to sponsor two teams in this year’s The Off-Road Championship (TORC) Series, which kicks off on Memorial Day in Buchanan, Mich.
Driving factory-backed Ram Trucks in the 14-race series will be multiple-time off-road champ Rob MacCachren and Formula DRIFT king Sam Hubinette, who will compete for Traxxas Racing, along with Menzies Motorsports’ Ricky Johnson (a 2010 TORC class champion), Bryce Menzies (a three-year off-road veteran) and Luke Johnson (one of the sport’s rising stars).
In addition, the Ram/Mopar sponsorship also means:
Ram will become the official vehicle of the TORC Series.
A Mopar Ram Runner will serve as the official pace truck.
Ram and Mopar will bring a significant trackside presence to each race, with off-road Ram Truck test-drive opportunities for fans.
“I couldn’t be more proud to have Ram partnering with these great off-road drivers, championship-caliber teams and the TORC Series itself,” said Fred Diaz, president and CEO of Ram Truck and the Chrysler Group’s head of U.S. sales. “Off-road racers and fans are extremely passionate about their trucks, just like we are. This partnership is a perfect fit for us to connect and share the passion in a fun and exciting way.”
It’s just the latest chapter in Ram’s long and successful history of off-road racing, which began in the 1970s when the brand was under the Dodge umbrella. A Dodge piloted by Walker Evans was the first pickup to win the demanding Baja 1000, in 1979, and off-road legend Rod Hall scored an incredible 37 consecutive race victories in Dodge vehicles, including numerous Baja 1000 titles. More recently, Ram and Kent Kroeker have partnered both off the road and in the garage, winning some of the most grueling desert races in the world and developing the Ram Runner production truck, which delivers a whole new level of HEMI-powered off-road performance in a street-legal package.
“From the drag strip to the circle track, the Mopar brand has a proud heritage in racing,” said Pietro Gorlier, president and CEO of Mopar. “We are excited to extend our presence into off-road racing, where many of our Mopar fanatics reside. In fact, off-road
car accessories and performance parts make up more than 30 percent of our portfolio, so this is a critical market that we want to reach.”
